The Convicted Study
Jason Godinho Curator of the Convicted Estate
The Estate gathers the ideas, disciplines, and work. The Study introduces the person who shaped them, along with the life that put them to the test.
The life behind the language
I was born in Bombay, India. My family immigrated to the United States when I was about a year and a half old, and I grew up in San Diego. My life has carried me through places and seasons that do not fit into a neat origin story.
A federal conviction for cannabis manufacturing led to prison. On the eve of entering prison, I began a 40-day fast. That moment became part of a much longer process of confronting my life, rebuilding it, and learning to live what I say I believe.
That story became Fasting for Freedom, a true story of redemption. My relationship with Jesus Christ is foundational to the work: it shapes how I understand responsibility, restoration, discipline, and the dignity of other people.
The past is part of my story. It is not the full measure of the person I am or the work I offer now.
At the center of this work: helping people find a life that is rewarding, while I work to live one myself.
Faith, practiced in community
For a long time, I could describe the man I wanted to become more clearly than I could live as him. My words were ahead of my behavior. Through my relationship with Jesus, the discipline of prayer, and the accountability of other men, I began to confront that gap in daily life.
I shared this testimony with the men's prayer community at Awaken Church, where I served as an Emergence captain. It reflects a standard I am still practicing:
My words need to catch up to my behavior, not the other way around.
My relationship with Jesus Christ is central to my life and shapes the way I serve. I share that openly. Someone does not have to share my faith to have an honest conversation with me about conviction, responsibility, or growth.
Conviction, made visible
Convicted names the standard I keep returning to: bring belief into practice, with discipline, humility, and a willingness to keep growing.
Three domains. Nine categories.
I do not pretend to arrive with every skill already formed. I study, practice, build the habits I need, and stay with the work. To me, excellence always in all ways means discipline, responsiveness, and an incessant willingness to keep preparing and keep growing. Preparation is one of the ways we honor the people who will have to depend on us.
How I communicate
That line is playful, but the practice is serious. It takes listening closely enough to understand another person's context, interests, and concerns; then finding language that makes a sound decision easier to see and choose.
I work to stay clear when a conversation is charged, to advocate without losing sight of the person across the table, and to persuade without making agreement a condition of respect.
Ideas in the room
It is the preparation, presence, timing, and care that help a message reach another person.
Across coaching, writing, speaking, and advocacy, I bring together lived experience, disciplined preparation, emotional restraint, and a belief that people can make thoughtful choices for themselves. The form changes; the invitation stays the same: see clearly, choose deliberately, and live a life that is rewarding.
Work with Jason
The Convicted offerings share a common thread: helping people think clearly, act with intention, and build a life they can stand behind.
A structured coaching process for clarifying what matters, changing the patterns that keep you stuck, and practicing a more rewarding way forward.
Speaking shaped by lived experience and the connected work of faith, identity, discipline, communication, and redemption.
Preparation and advocacy for principals navigating consequential conversations, competing interests, and high-pressure decisions.
Clarify interests and stakes. Test options. Shape a persuasive position. Enter the conversation with greater steadiness and purpose.
Fasting for Freedom tells a personal story of faith, prison, and rebuilding. That story sits close to the heart of the Estate.
About negotiation and advocacy: This is strategic communication and negotiation support, not legal representation or a guarantee of a particular outcome. When a matter calls for legal, financial, or other technical advice, those decisions belong with the principal and their qualified advisers.
The invitation
The Estate is the work. The Study is the story behind it. If something here meets the season you are in, choose a gate and begin.
